In rural San Miguel you are truly 'Between the Mountains and the Sea' giving you the option of exploring the pine forests, barancas and mountains on one day and the coastal area the next. There is unspoilt local countryside to walk, run, hike, cycle or picnic in. Many interesting local markets to explore, and a visit to the National Park to see Spain's highest peak-Teide is always recommended. At the coast you can participate in countless watersports, play tennis, enjoy a round of golf at the many courses in the south or take a visit to one of the many wildlife parks. A personal favourite of mine is the Cactus Park where you will see huge examples of these specimens up to 20 feet high from all over the world. The park is twinned with a tropical enclosure housing butterflies, humming birds and many rare fauna and flora. Of course if any of these suggestions sound too energetic then a choice of good beaches are to be found within 20 minutes drive from San Miguel.
