Tenerife has the perfect climate for Golf, its never too hot or too cold for a round at one of the first class courses on the island. The courses are varied, some are placed in dramatic settings overlooking the sea and others set against a backdrop of the volcanic landscape of Mount Teide. Tenerife’s championship golf courses will challenge even the most experienced of players

Golf del Sur

Location – Urban development of Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf, 10 minutes from the South Reina Sofia airport. The Urban development – Golf del Sur, with 1660,000 square metres has been declared an area of National Tourism interest

The 27-hole golf course covers 850,000 square metres and includes driving ranges and a fully equipped golf school. The Golf del Sur course is for the use of owners and residents in the area – non-residents can also play here

The course was opened in 1987 and designed by Pepe Gancedo. The course is set amidst a landscape of colour contrast, combining the colours of the Atlantic and the volcanic black sand of the bunkers against the greens of the course and cacti

Golf del Sur has been the scene of several European PGA circuit events with victories by Jose Maria Olazabal, Mark James and David Gilford

The Tenerife Open, which is part of the European PGA circuit, is held here

Amarilla Golf and Country Club

Location – South motorwayTF-1, ten minutes from the South Reina Sofia airport
Opening times for the course and golf shop – 8.30 – 17.00
This course was opened in 1988 and designed by Donald Steel. The Volvo Tenerife Open was held here in 1990.

The 18 holes sweep down to the coast and back offering wonderful ocean, mountain and country views. The layout makes challenging use of natural contours and includes daunting tee shots over rocky inlets at the short 5th and 12th

Golf Las Americas

Location – adjacent to the resorts of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos

This course was opened in 1997, it commands a sheltered position in a natural amphitheatre. It was designed by John Jacobs and provides a good test of golf with water coming into play on eight holes. The spacious and well-designed clubhouse overlooks the eighteenth green

Costa Adeje

The course was opened in the summer of 1998 and designed by Pepe Gancedo. It sits on the site of a former banana plantation and has been cleverly designed using the natural terrain.
The course starts inland before dramatically sweeping out to sea and back again. Beautifully manicured greens and breathtaking views make for a testing but rewarding round of golf
